Once, on a visit to Sleeping Giant in May-long weekend, a friend and I passed by someone's tent in Tea Harbor. It was a surprising site, to see a pitched tent while there was still snow on the trail, and ice in the water. When we asked the camper what brought him to be there in the park alone that weekend, he mentioned how his wife and kids like to spend time going to church on a Sunday like that one. "This is my church", he said, stretching his arms wide to encompass all the trees, water, and nature around him. As I started our trail run back to the car that day, the thought ran alongside me about how true that sentiment also was for myself.
I often like to tell people that I only started to like Thunder Bay when I started wandering its wild landscape. It started with simple camping trips with friends where I learned basic skills of backwoods camping, and gradually it evolved into weeks at a time, paying pilgrimages to beautiful well-kept cathedrals of nature such as Quetico, Wabakimi, Sleeping Giant and others. My camera has often come along as well the best of friends.
When I am indoors, my work life has followed its own trail and compass with an interest in science in my university years leading to the practical application of my biology experience a frontier human tissue bank in Thunder Bay. Having spent years there, doing work I felt proud of with an exceptional team of people, I recently took the plunge into doing economic development work for the federal government of Canada. Specifically, I have hoped to transfer hard earned lessons doing private sector business development and export development work with RegenMed to help other entrepreneurs trying to create meaningful work and prosperity in Northern Ontario.
Accompanying my outside of home life, a rich inner life was gifted to me from my parents. I had the immense privilege of growing up with their persian heritage, finding quiet inspiration with the poetry of literary giants such as Hafez, Sepehri, Rumi, Saadi, and Akhavan-Sales. I have included a few translations on this site that I especially enjoy, with the hope that any visitor might relish them just as I have many times over.
